We were recently in discussion with Friends of the Blue Mountain - Birch Cove Lakes Society organizers regarding this wilderness area and its connection to Highland Park. They are interested in getting the word out to residents in our community, who would greatly benefit from a true wilderness area connecting our community to Kearney Lake:
DID YOU KNOW THIS WAS ON OUR DOORSTEP?
On the far side of Cox Lake, adjacent to the crown land (part of the Blue Mountain--Birch Cove Lakes Wilderness Area), is a privately held block now under an agreement of sale to the Nova Scotia Nature Trust. This 'connector block' will form a continuous, 11km stretch of preserved acreage all the way to Kearney Lake, contributing to the HRM-proposed Regional Wilderness Park. This legacy will add to the quality of life for all communities living around the 32km circumference of the total Wilderness Area. You can find out more here:
